Position: Volunteer Coordinator Salary: $12,311 per year Type: Full Time Location: Ann Arbor, MI
The Shelter Association provides shelter and services to nearly 1100 single adults experiencing homelessness. SAWC
programs are aimed to end homelessness by addressing barriers to finding and sustaining housing. SAWC offers temporary
shelter through the year-round Residential program and the seasonal Warming Center and Rotating Shelter programs
during the winter months. In addition, the Shelter Diversion program is designed to divert to immediate, alternative
arrangements for a temporary dwellings until obtaining affordable housing.
We are seeking a Community Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator Vista Member as part of our Capacity Building to End
Homelessness thru AmeriCorps
Member Duties:
As the Community Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator VISTA for Shelter Association of Washtenaw County you will have the
opportunity to inspire the community to invest their time, talent and treasure in our organization. Your community
outreach, event promotion and volunteer engagement efforts will allow us to strengthen and grow community partnerships
that improve and expand programs and services offered to the county’s most vulnerable neighbors.
Responsibilities Include:
Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator 2019-2020 Vista
Improve community awareness & engagement efforts
Sponsor community events
Schedule Shelter Tours
Distribute informational materials to schools, universities, community colleges and local businesses
Maintain and improve volunteer database and tracking system
Develop partnerships and networks with Faith-based organizations to expand rotating shelter programs
Deepen relationships with local non-profits and landlords
Plan coordinate and execute all aspects of event logistics and details
Develop marketing plan for Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
Coordinate Third Party Events and Social Enterprise Opportunities
Research new funding opportunities
Permits attendance at school during off hours
Permits working at another job during off hours

Volunteer or group facilitation
Qualified applicants need the ability to work independently and with a team. Experience with data entry, excellent verbal
and written communication skills, ability to multitask and prioritize tasks, and knowledge of social media tools. Event
management experience and public speaking confidence preferred. Need access to reliable transportation.

$200/Month housing stipend
Education award upon successful completion of service: ($6,095) or cash stipend ($1800)
