Duties: The Pasadena Public Library is looking for a new children’s librarian to join our Youth Services team at the Central
Branch. The Pasadena Public Library is ideal for someone looking to take risks and enjoy programing for children, parents and
caregivers. Responsible for planning and implementing the Children’s Summer Reading Program. Manages STEM/STEAM
programs and activities. Participates in Children’s collection development. Performs outreach activities to local schools and
community organizations to promote Children’s services. Represents the library when partnering with community
organizations pertaining to children. Participates in marketing library programs and services in print, digital and social media
formats. Attends professional library conferences, seminars, workshops and training for staff development. Will report to the
Manager of Youth Services and will be acting Youth Services Manager in their absence. Performs duties at public service
desks, circulation desks and throughout the Library, including handling a variety of library transactions, answering customer
reference inquiries, teaching use of library resources and handling referrals. Plans library programs, instructional classes and
community outreach events; Compiles reports, bibliographies and search guides. Assists with creating library policies and
procedures. Participates in collection development. May supervise staff, as assigned. Acts as lead librarian with building
charge, as assigned. Participates in promoting public library services to the local community through a variety of formats.
Assists in preparation and monitoring of grants. May be responsible for coordinating or managing specific library functions,
budgets, facilities and resources. Works days, evenings and weekends. Must be able to obtain and maintain, without
interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and
complies with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited college or university and minimum two (2) years
relevant experience. Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and
demonstrate that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
