Build Ops Engineer
We make Photos App engineers happier and more productive by improving our systems and tools. By doing this, not
only do we have direct positive impact on the people that we work with every day, but also on the lives of millions of
Photos App users who will get higher quality features faster.
We’re looking for an Ops engineer that can help us achieve our mission by maintaining and improving our Continuous
Integration systems and tools. That includes, but is not limited to, official builds, Pull Request builds, and test passes.

Maintains a set of machines in a laboratory setting. Troubleshoots hardware and software problems as required. May
install software and run some automated tests based on a clear set of instructions. Provides status reports on test
scenarios, lab machines and configurations. Moving and lifting of hardware maybe required.

Requirements
Start & end dates – 4/9/2018, 6/30/2018
Daily schedule – M-F 8:30am-4:30pm OR 9:00am-5:00pm
Typical task breakdown and rhythm – 70% of the time will be spent monitoring builds, updating build scripts, and
looking at failed builds. 10% of their time will be spent writing weekly reports.
Responsibilities
Monitor build infrastructure and official builds.
Resolve any incidents through a methodical approach, communicate status regularly, and hand-off investigations to
our European teams.
Work with partner teams on infrastructure issues and driving for incident resolution.
Triage build failures as infrastructure issues or code issues and send out a weekly report for all build failures.
Manage our build and test infrastructure, including setting up new build machines, rolling out software updates,
running regular maintenance tasks, etc.
Improve the speed and reliability of the build process/infrastructure by writing/fixing Powershell scripts, making
changes to the build workflow, deploying new software unto the build machines, etc.
Manage VSO settings and team membership.
Interaction level with team – There will be a lot of heads-down work with some collaboration with teams outside of
this org. No more than 10% of their time will be spent working with outside teams.
Work environment description – Open space where the entire team sits together. This is a very smart team but laid
back as well where everyone is willing to help each other out. Team is extremely close-knit and does spend a lot of
time outside of work together. (not required for the contractor to see team outside of work but Sponsor wanted to
mention that they all get along very well) The team is trying to shape the future of windows and with shipping
modern apps.
Chance for flex hours or remote – No
Chance for extension later – Very likely. The team will review the contractor’s work at the end of fiscal to determine if
they’d like to extend to the full 18 months.
